Lauren received a life-saving heart transplant in 2009, and her life was saved and transformed. Lauren is active in her school and an outspoken champion of the organ donation movement.
Most recently, in New York, she lobbied for a bill that the governor signed into law that bears her name, Lauren’s Law. The law makes answering the organ donor question on the DMV form mandatory when you register or renew your license. Along with local government officials & LiveOnNY, Lauren started a successful campaign at naturalization ceremonies to encourage new citizens to become donors. Its success is now statewide.
Lauren devotes her time to educating others on the importance of being a blood donor by participating in speaking engagements with the New York Blood Center. Additionally, she works with The American Heart Association Go Red for Women campaign. Lauren speaks at many local events, including St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the American Heart Association Heart Ball in NYC & CT, and Columbia University’s Student Leadership Summit. Her story has been featured on CBS, ABC, FOX5, the National NBC Nightly News, Japanese Fuji TV, and Russian Channel 1 News.
